Pirate Ship Cake

Anyone else have the Pirates of the Caribbean song going through their head right now?  No?  Just me?  Alright then...

A couple weeks ago, my older son turned five, FIVE!  It’s so hard to believe I already have a five year old.  It seems like just yesterday, I was bringing a little 4 pound bundle home from the hospital!  Well, my little bundle of joy has grown up into such a funny, intelligent little boy!

And what my little boy really wanted for his birthday was a Minnie Mouse cake.  Yep Minnie.  Mickey was not acceptable.  You see, when I made the Minnie cake for my friend, he immediately thought it was for him and decided right then and there (in October) that he was going to make a Minnie themed party for his birthday in January.

Now, I’m a pretty tolerant parent (my younger son has a collection of baby dolls & both boys like to play with my hairclips), but I wasn’t making my son a Minnie cake.  I gave him a few more ideas…Mickey, robots, pirates, trucks?   Well, eventually he settled on pirates (he’s a big Jake & the Neverland Pirates fan, too) but only if he could have a pirate ship cake.

To make his pirate ship cake, I used the same baking and carving method as I did with the Xylosaurus Cake, only carving the cake into a ship instead of a dinosaur.  I used Rich Chocolate cake, Chocolate MM Fondant, and just a little bit of MM fondant for the details!

In the end, my son was so thrilled to have a pirate party, complete with eye patches, that he didn’t remember the Minnie Cake at all!

  3. Your cakes are amazing! Love your talent. Thanks for sharing at Must Try Monday.

  4. This is AWESOME! Now I wish we were having a pirate party in a couple of weeks, but ours is to be a Superhero one. I'm not sure about the cake. Most I have seen are tiered and we just don't need THAT much cake! I'm going to have to check out your fondant recipe.

  5. You made that cake....???? I am in awe.....
Are you sure you didn't steal it out of a window display or something...? Lol
    It belongs in a magazine!

    hugs x

    1. Thank you so much Crystelle! You made my night!

  6. You did a great job on your pirate cake!
